I almost purchased the Aculas HB-850A from a popular web site. For those of you who don’t know, this is a laser treatment for hair loss. It was on sale for $899 and came with free shipping. This model is powered at [email protected] I just purchased the more powerful model HB-850B which is rated at [email protected] I purchased this model for $990 directly from the manufacturer and the price included free shipping. The popular web site’s price for this same model is close to $3000. Just check out konftec.com. The web site is not very user friendly but I was able to navigate my way around after a little work. If this does not work for me I will just list it on Ebay. The manufacturer is in Taiwan and they were good about responding to my emails. |

Celt… I’ve been wondering what the diameter of the handheld thingy is…is it the size of a quarter… a golf ball…please let me know when you get it. Also, there has been mention of laser devices doing 1 of 2 things… either needles of light…with black (dark spots) in between the lasers… or..a whole area of light which is more effecient because it covers a whole area instead of ONLY spots where the thin laser light hits…not sure how the ‘area’ effect is acheived but the Aculas seems to have a dispersion effect which does this…let me know about that too. Thanks. |

Posted by me,elsewhere, Friday March 02, 2007 : I bought mine from , an Australian website, for US $899 + FREE Worldwide delivery. However, when you receive it, it has all the manufacturers details on the back of the device itself (Konftec). I have been emailing them for prices since i got it – with no reply. Today i phoned up and emailed again. They gave me the order page URL for the Aculas HB 850.
The Aculas you need is the Aculas-HB-850A625. This is the one you want and is the SAME one sold by i.e. 100mw (5x 20mw). Here is the product page
Both aculas & konftec offer FREE Worldwide delivery. So don’t get ripped off by the Aussies, save over US $200 by buying direct from the manufacturer..and they use Paypal. |

Celt… I think buying an Aculas must be God’s way of telling you that you make too much money. just kidding For those on a leaner budget, I got a 4 laser brush at for 79. I use it longer than Joe recommends (i uaually go about 45 minutes with it) but not more ofter–every other day. |

I just bought myself the Aculas…kind of wished i read chromes post before doing so. Thing is I thought i had done a thorough job in researching the product. Oh well you live and learn. I have only used the comb twice so far. My initial thoughts when I got the thing is that they have mounted the lasers into a portable shower head. Not really sure if it is worth the cash but it does appear to be a well built unit. Lets hope it can increase my hair count. I am using the comb with minox and nizoral. I have been having some success with minox and nizoral – people are commenting that my hair looks darker. I am hoping by introducing the laser it thickens up a little more.
Finally just a quick question for t5aylor…… |

Chrome…any reason you went for the 100mW instead of the 250mW version…besides price? Chrome and Horseshoehead…how big is the shower head thingy…do the lasers spread out and create ONE thick ‘shower head’ sized ‘area’ of laser light…or is it 6 separate thin light beams with dark/black areas between? Does it take lots of travel around the scalp to cover the whole head and hairline? Thanks. Oh…Horseshoehead..same question…why the 100mW version. Is the more expensive (B) version ‘too’ much…danger of doing more harm then good? Or was it just an ‘afford’ price decision? |

Horse… I just use the thing when I am wasting time on TV or the Internet, so the time flys by pretty fast actaully.Since I only got the 4 laser model, it is actually a little weaker than hairmax, so I am going for more duration. And I sort of enjoy how that boars hair or whatever it is feels….i know, I need a life. BTW, I have lost myself in surfing researh on LLLT and a guy can really get some mixed messages. But one thing seems clear to me, Joe did his homework when he built his inexpensive models. I dont think I am saying that just because that’s where I got mine, but ya never know I spose. For example, the scalp skin is thin and the follicles rather close to the surface, no more than 650 nm appears to be required. In fact, the higher nm models might actually “miss the mark” and go a little too deep. I also found an interesting study that showed a vitamin C mixture actaully decreased the cell division componet of LLLT. I am comtemplating dropping minox and Niz (the only topicals i use) and just go with the laser for a while. It would be nice to know if topicals have a synergistic or antagonistic effect with LLLT, but its not clear at all that that is the case as far as I can tell…..why cant all this be simple JT |
